Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 18, 2021 (SKNIS): According to St. Kitts & Nevis’ COVID-19 Situation Report for Friday 18th June, 2021, the positive cases of COVID-19 have increased by 25 from the report given the day before.
Active cases now stand at 233, with 70 recovered, one death, and 304 confirmed cases since the first two detected cases on March 24, 2020.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hazel Laws said that the 25 new positive cases are not linked to Her Majesty’s Prison, which has seen an outbreak with 37 inmates and two members of staff testing positive for the SARS CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 disease.
Commissioner of Corrections at Her Majesty’s Prison, Terrance James, assured the public that every measure is being taken to contain the spread within the correctional facility that has been closed to the general public since early 2020.
“My management team and I have been working closely with the National COVID-19 Task Force and have been receiving advice from the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Hazel Laws on what steps should be taken to contain the situation at Her Majesty’s Prison,” Commissioner James stated at a joint press conference with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of National Security on Thursday, June 17, 2021.
